About The Position

The Dietitian will be responsible for providing nutrition and dietetic services across various units within the hospital, including the medical unit, surgical/pediatric unit, progressive care unit, OB unit, intensive care unit, long term care unit, and psychiatric unit. This role also involves providing services at Ka'u Hospital and Hilo Hospital, which are long-term care facilities, one day per month. The position requires creating and updating menus, serving as a resource for food service management and kitchen staff, interviewing patients, performing nutrition assessments, making nutrition recommendations, following up on physician consults, providing nutrition education, and participating in interdisciplinary team meetings and ICU rounds. The Dietitian will collaborate with food service and medical staff to ensure optimal patient care.

Requirements

  • Hawaii License by start of assignment
  • Nutrition Assessment for pediatric to geriatric patients
  • Medical Nutrition Therapy for acute care, long term care, and critical care
  • Ability to estimate nutrition needs such as caloric, protein, and fluid needs
  • Nutrition Support (Parenteral/Enteral Nutrition)
  • Nutrition Education
  • Food Service Management
  • Ability to chart in electronic medical records
  • Ability to develop and update nutrition care plans
  • Minimum Data Sets
  • Minimum one year experience of clinical nutrition experience
  • Registered Dietician by the Commission on Dietetic Registration

Responsibilities

  • Correct menus and make menu changes for kitchen staff
  • Serve as a resource for food service management and kitchen staff in regards to clarification of diets/nutrition support and patient satisfaction
  • Review patient assessment requests
  • Interview patients and perform nutrition assessments
  • Make nutrition recommendations as needed
  • Follow up with physician consults
  • Provide nutrition education
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and/or ICU rounds
  • Collaborate with all food service and medical staff to provide optimal patient care
