About The Position

Diet Technicians provide nutritional services to residents, guests, and other personnel according to professional standards and practices. The role is performed within Otterbein’s Small House Neighborhood elder care model, a resident-oriented, non-institutional setting. The position primarily serves geriatric residents ages 62 to 85 and older, with occasional younger adults over age 18. Diet Technicians are expected to support elders’ autonomy and dignity and place dietary decision-making in their hands whenever possible and appropriate.

Requirements

• Associate degree in dietetic technology from an ADA-accredited program.
• Registered Dietetic Technician certification.
• Interest in caring for the overall best interest of elders and understanding of the position’s requirements.
• Ability to cope with mental and emotional stress related to working with people who are ill, disabled, elderly, or emotionally upset.
• Ability to communicate in English.
• Strong attention to detail, literacy, writing, documentation, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to use the tools and equipment required for the position.

Responsibilities

• Provide nutritional services to residents, guests, and other personnel in accordance with professional standards and practices.
• Orient dietary services around elders’ autonomy and dignity.
• Communicate care and concern for elders and treat them with dignity.
• Place dietary decision-making in elders’ hands whenever possible and appropriate.
• Make prompt and accurate judgments regarding elder care and emergencies.
• Work and communicate effectively as part of a self-directed work team.
• Use the tools and equipment required for the position.
