About The Position
Under the direction of the Patient Services Manager and/or Clinical Nutrition Manager, the Diet Clerk is responsible for patient menu management, data collection, and diet office functions as needed. The role supports patients with menu selections in compliance with prescribed diets and offers appropriate alternatives for food allergies or sensitivities and cultural, ethnic, and religious preferences. The position also supports menu planning, nutrition supplement and enteral formula preparation and distribution, and required documentation and regulatory compliance.
Requirements
- Previous customer service experience.
- Computer skills.
- Food service experience.
- Valid Food Handler's card required.
Responsibilities
- Distribute and collect menus.
- Assist patients with menu selections in compliance with prescribed diets, as assigned by a dietitian.
- Offer menu alternatives allowed by the prescribed diet, taking into account food allergies or sensitivities and cultural, ethnic, and religious preferences when patients inquire or need additional selections.
- Plan regular and modified menus based on the current diet manual.
- Prepare and distribute supplements, tube feedings, and enteral formula accurately and promptly.
- May prepare, distribute, inventory, and manage human/donor milk and/or infant formula.
- Follow facility confidentiality, HIPAA, and patient rights policies.
- Comply with regulatory agency standards, including federal, state, and TJC standards.
- Complete required documentation, reports, and logs.
- Follow facility and department infection-control policies and procedures.
- Participate in facility-wide and department Performance Improvement Programs and teams to improve processes and patient care.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
