About The Position

Ryder is hiring a Mid-Level Diesel Technician in Richmond, Virginia. The role performs maintenance and repair work on vehicles, including heavy-duty vehicles, and uses diagnostic tools and equipment. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., with weekends off. Pay is $28.00 per hour, with certification and quarterly bonus opportunities. The position requires driving Ryder vehicles and obtaining a CDL within six months after hire. Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Vocational or technical certification.
Basic tools required.
Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines.
Experience with routine preventive maintenance, including oil changes, brake work, and tire work, required.
Two or more years of combined classroom training and work experience in the required area preferred.
Valid Class A Commercial Driver License preferred.
Must be able to obtain a CDL within six months after hire.
Must pass a Ryder drug test, DOT physical, and Ryder road test.
Must pass Ryder background and motor vehicle checks, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last three years.
Some positions may require additional screening, including employment and education verification, motor vehicle records check, road test, or customer badging or background requirements.

Responsibilities

Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties.
Perform standard vehicle maintenance.
Perform standard component inspections and repairs.
Perform preventive maintenance.
Diagnose standard mechanical and electronic problems, using diagnostic computers when applicable.
Identify root causes of basic failures or conditions and perform repairs as required.
Replace defective components as instructed.
Perform facility maintenance duties.
Interact with customers and drivers to determine the nature of complaints when assigned a task.
Use key functions of the Shop Management System and available electronic documentation.
Work in accordance with federal, provincial, and corporate compliance guidelines, including safety and DOT/MOT requirements.
Perform other support duties as required to support operations, including Service Island support.
