About The Position

The Diesel Service Technician diagnoses, repairs, and performs routine maintenance on diesel-powered vehicles, including trucks and vans. The technician works with the service department to help ensure diesel engines and systems operate safely and meet quality standards. Duties include inspecting and testing vehicles, troubleshooting and repairing engine and vehicle systems, performing preventive maintenance, documenting work, and communicating findings and recommendations to customers. The role also involves collaborating with technicians, service advisors, and parts personnel, supporting less experienced technicians, maintaining satisfactory attendance, and performing other related duties as assigned. No supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

At least 3 years of hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing diesel engines and related systems.
Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
Valid driver’s license and safe driving record; must obtain a California driver’s license within 30 days following the date of hire.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Willingness to participate in ongoing training and professional development.
Ability to perform all essential functions of the job.
Ability to stand, walk, and work in various positions, including bending and kneeling, for extended periods.
Manual dexterity to handle tools and small parts.
Ability to frequently lift 30 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work in tight spaces and frequently bend, stretch, kneel, and squat.

Nice To Haves

Technical automotive certifications, ASE certifications, or equivalent technical training.
Experience working with a variety of diesel-powered vehicles, such as trucks, buses, and heavy machinery.
Strong understanding of diesel engine components and systems.
Experience in a dealership setting.

Responsibilities

Diagnose diesel engines and electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
Identify problems with engines, drivetrains, brakes, fuel systems, exhaust systems, and other components.
Test and inspect diesel-powered vehicles and equipment for performance and safety.
Repair or replace faulty components, including injectors, turbos, fuel pumps, transmissions, engine components, fuel systems, and cooling systems.
Perform routine maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, tire rotations, and fluid checks.
Inspect vehicles for wear and tear and provide preventive maintenance.
Use specialized diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot and make repairs.
Work on a variety of diesel-powered vehicles and equipment, including trucks, buses, construction machinery, and agricultural equipment.
Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, repairs, and parts used.
Provide reports to supervisors and customers about completed work and additional issues discovered.
Follow safety protocols and comply with local and national environmental regulations.
Communicate vehicle issues, diagnostic findings, maintenance needs, and repair options to customers.
Provide high-quality customer service and address customer concerns.
Coordinate with other technicians, service advisors, and parts personnel to support efficient repairs and maintenance.
Assist in training and mentoring less experienced technicians.
Collaborate with team members to improve processes and complete work on time.
Maintain satisfactory attendance.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
