About The Position

North America Central School Bus is hiring a Diesel Mechanic for its Illinois Central School Bus team. The role helps keep school buses and company vehicles safe, reliable, and road-ready so students can travel safely to and from school. The position includes maintenance, repair, diagnostics, preventive maintenance, inspections, and recordkeeping, as well as testing vehicles after repairs. Mechanics may support and mentor teammates as their skill level increases.

Work takes place in a shop or garage and bus yard, with occasional road support. Candidates must be able to work early morning shifts, meet the stated physical demands, pass a DOT physical, and meet drug-free workplace requirements.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of mechanical experience for intermediate-level candidates or 5+ years for experienced-level candidates.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• CDL Class B with Passenger endorsement, or ability to obtain it within 60 days.
• Strong communication skills and a professional attitude.
• Ability to work early morning shifts.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs., crouch, bend, climb, and use hand tools.
• Must pass a DOT physical and meet drug-free workplace requirements.

Nice To Haves

• Diesel or heavy-duty vehicle maintenance experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and repairs on school buses and company vehicles.
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues.
• Complete preventive maintenance, brake work, tune-ups, and safety inspections.
• Test-drive vehicles to verify repairs.
• Maintain accurate repair and parts records.
• Support and mentor teammates as skill level increases.
