About The Position

Village Travel is hiring a full-time Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair its fleet of motorcoaches, buses, and company cars in Wichita, Kansas. The role is responsible for keeping equipment and people safe while meeting company standards. This is a first-shift position, Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Flexibility is appreciated to accommodate vehicle departure schedules, and overtime may be necessary. Starting pay is $27–$31 per hour, based on experience. The position offers a $2,000 sign-on bonus and participation in a Mechanic Training Program through which employees can earn up to an additional $2,000 in tool money. The mechanic must supply their own tools.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least one year of experience maintaining and repairing heavy-duty diesel-powered equipment.
• Participation in the company’s DOT drug testing program.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds without assistance.
• Ability to stand, sit, squat, and lie down for extended periods.
• Ability to perform duties in inclement weather as necessary.
• Must have personal tools.

Nice To Haves

• Ability to acquire and hold a Class A or B CDL with air brake and passenger endorsements.
• Degree or certificate from an accredited technical school in automotive or diesel repair.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced diagnostics and repairs on HVAC, brake, electrical, suspension, ADA, interior, engine, and aftertreatment systems with minimal errors and supervision.
• Apply knowledge of DOT and CVSA requirements and regulations.
• Use maintenance software proficiently and complete paperwork thoroughly and on time.
• Possibly participate in a rotating on-call schedule after gaining sufficient experience.
• Use and maintain necessary tools, including company-provided tools, responsibly.
• Assist other mechanics in the home market and at other locations, sometimes traveling to company facilities.
• Use sound judgment when problems arise.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Shop Foreman, General Manager, and Director of Fleet Maintenance.
