WM is hiring a Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair diesel equipment and, at some locations, CNG trucks. The role is based at a repair and maintenance shop at WM’s San Antonio, Texas hauling site. The schedule is Monday through Friday, with either a second shift (4:00 p.m.–3:00 a.m.) or a third shift (9:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m.); weekends are not required. A two-week mandatory training program in Arizona is required. The posting advertises a starting pay rate of $26–$28 per hour depending on experience, plus a $3 shift differential, a $7,500 sign-on bonus, tool allowance reimbursement up to $2,000, and a $200 boot allowance. The mechanic inspects, diagnoses, and repairs a range of vehicle and equipment systems, estimates repair time and material costs, performs work within Standard Labor Repair Times, responds to emergency breakdown calls, carries out safety checks, documents parts usage and repair times, supports senior mechanics on projects, and handles repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports. The position requires maintaining a clean and safe work area and following established safety procedures and Corporate/OSHA standards. The work involves frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, crouching, and climbing; constant standing, walking, and grasping; and occasional sitting and balancing. The mechanic is often exposed to occupational risks such as cuts, burns, and toxic chemicals, and to dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes, and similar conditions. Work takes place both indoors in a garage, shop, or gas plant and outdoors, including in inclement weather, heat, and humidity. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.
