About The Position

Mustang Cat is hiring experienced Caterpillar Heavy Equipment Mechanics for shop service and field service positions in Houston, Texas. Mechanics inspect, service, diagnose, and repair Cat diesel-powered equipment and construction machinery. Shop mechanics work with mentor technicians in a fully equipped shop; field mechanics use a company-provided service truck to service customers at job sites. Technician levels and pay rates are based on skills, certifications, and experience.

Requirements

Must own the tools required to perform heavy equipment repairs.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Strong mechanical understanding of diesel engines, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems.
Hands-on experience with transmissions, track systems, components, and fuel systems.
Previous experience with Caterpillar or competitive earthmoving equipment brands.
Proficiency in technical diagnostics and ability to use Cat ET (Electronic Technician) or similar systems.

Nice To Haves

Welding and fabrication experience, including MIG welding, arc gouging, and oxyacetylene torch use.
Familiarity with hydraulic pumps, valves, and motors.
Formal training from OEM programs or accredited technical schools.
Experience using diagnostic tools such as Cat ET, Cummins Insite, or competitor platforms.

Responsibilities

Set up, diagnose, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on heavy equipment.
Replace components, including hydraulic, fuel-system, transmission, undercarriage, and electrical components.
For shop service, work with mentor technicians in a fully equipped shop.
For field service, operate a company-provided service truck and service customers at their job sites.
Maintain high-quality standards and follow safety procedures.
