About The Position

The Diesel Mechanic (Service Tech IV) performs maintenance and repairs on complex rental and customer equipment with limited or no supervision, exercising independent judgment and working safely and professionally. The role provides exceptional customer service and may offer opportunities to progress into leadership roles in the Service Department. The technician maintains and repairs mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems; travels to customer sites when needed; helps train less experienced technicians; documents work; and assists with equipment and parts pickup and delivery. This position is designated Safety Sensitive under United Rentals’ policies and procedures.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
At least 5 years of experience repairing or maintaining equipment and tools.
Advanced mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of tools.
Extensive knowledge of construction equipment and advanced understanding of schematics and diagrams.
Own tools applicable to the position.
Strong customer service, teamwork, and verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to frequently lift items weighing up to 45 lbs.

Responsibilities

Maintain and repair complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems on rental and customer equipment and tools.
Travel to customer job sites as needed to repair or maintain equipment, and keep the service vehicle clean and professional.
Assist in training lower-level technicians as needed.
Complete paperwork and electronic work-order documentation accurately and promptly each day.
Assist with pickup and delivery of equipment and parts.
Perform other duties as assigned.
