About The Position

Ryder is hiring a Mid-Level Diesel Technician in Grand Island, Nebraska. The role performs maintenance and repair work on vehicles, including heavy-duty vehicles, and uses diagnostic tools and equipment. The position is scheduled Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with weekends off. Ryder provides weekly pay, training, tools and equipment, and opportunities for career development and advancement. The position requires driving Ryder vehicles; the employee must be able to obtain a CDL within six months after hire and pass the required drug test, DOT physical, road test, and background and motor vehicle checks.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Vocational or technical certification.
Basic tools required.
Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines.
Experience with routine preventive maintenance, including oil changes, brake work, and tire work, required.
Two or more years of combined classroom training and work experience in the required experience preferred.
Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A preferred.
Must be able to obtain a CDL within six months after hire.
Must pass a Ryder drug test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, and Ryder background and motor vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last three years.
Must be able to drive Ryder vehicles.

Responsibilities

Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties.
Perform standard vehicle maintenance.
Perform standard component inspections and repairs.
Perform preventive maintenance.
Diagnose standard mechanical and electronic problems, using a diagnostic computer when applicable.
Identify root causes of basic failures or conditions and perform repairs as required.
Replace defective components as instructed.
Perform facility maintenance duties.
Interact with customers and drivers to determine the nature of a complaint when assigned a task.
Use key functions of the Shop Management System and available electronic documentation.
Work in accordance with federal, provincial, and corporate compliance guidelines, including safety, DOT, and MOT requirements.
Perform other support duties required to support operations, which may include Service Island support.
