About The Position

Ryder is hiring a mid-level Diesel Technician in North Charleston, South Carolina. The role performs maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on heavy- and medium-duty vehicles using diagnostic equipment and tools. Technicians work with minimal supervision on complex repairs, document work electronically, interact with customers and drivers to determine vehicle concerns, and follow applicable safety, DOT, and company compliance guidelines. The position also supports facility and shop operations and may mentor less experienced technicians. The schedule is Monday through Friday, with weekends off, on second shift from 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Pay is $34.00 per hour. Requirements

Vocational or technical certification.
Basic tools are required.
Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventive maintenance such as oil changes, brake work, and tire work.
Basic diagnostics and repairs, including air-conditioning and electrical systems.
At least two years of experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy-duty and medium-duty equipment.
Knowledge of and ability to use computers, including a PC, Windows, and a mouse.
Ability to obtain a CDL within six months after hire.
Pass a Ryder drug test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, and Ryder background and motor vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last three years.
Ability to drive Ryder vehicles.
Additional screening may be required, including employment and education verification, motor vehicle records check, road test, or customer-specific badging or background requirements.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Post-secondary degree or technical certifications preferred.
Three or more years of relevant work experience preferred.
Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform standard vehicle maintenance and preventive maintenance.
Diagnose complex mechanical and electronic problems, using diagnostic computers when applicable.
Complete complex, detailed mechanical inspections and repairs with minimal supervision.
Replace defective components as instructed.
Work unsupervised on most tasks.
Perform facility maintenance duties.
Interact with customers and drivers to determine the nature of complaints after receiving an assigned task.
Use key functions of the Shop Management System and available electronic documentation.
Work in accordance with federal, provincial, and corporate compliance guidelines, including safety and DOT requirements.
Mentor Tech 1 and Tech 2 level technicians.
Access and use internal and external maintenance documents.
Provide other support duties as required to support operations, including Service Island support.
Complete SBTIII training within 180 days (SBT220).
Complete two OEM online diagnostic scan-tool software courses as required by the location fleet mix within 365 days.
