About The Position

This position is responsible for maintaining the Company fleet in accordance with established schedules and all government regulations. The Diesel Mechanic will perform repairs and ensure electric, diesel, and gasoline industrial trucks are running properly by following manuals, using hand tools, power tools, and applying knowledge of various automotive systems. The role involves diagnosing malfunctions, installing new parts, overhauling engines, and ensuring trucks meet specifications. Additionally, the position requires active participation in team initiatives, adherence to company operating systems, and performing other duties as necessary to support business objectives.

Requirements

  • Must have at least 1 year diesel mechanic experience.
  • Must be able to provide tools.
  • Must have the ability to make good decisions and communicate effectively with others and leadership team.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification from vo-tech or trade school preferred.
  • Applicants who are brake certified or possess a minimum of one year of brake-related experience may qualify for placement in a higher-level role.

Responsibilities

  • Repairs and keeps electric, diesel, and gasoline industrial trucks running properly, following manuals, and using hand tools, power tools, and knowledge of electrical, power transmission, brake, and other automotive systems.
  • Reads job orders and observes and listens to trucks in operation to determine malfunction and to plan work procedures.
  • Installs new ignition systems, aligns front wheels, changes or recharges batteries, and replaces transmissions and other parts, using hand tools.
  • Overhauls gas or diesel engines, using mechanic's hand tools, welding equipment, standard charts, and hoists.
  • Examines protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks, and makes adjustments, using hand tools.
  • Lubricates moving parts and drives repaired trucks to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Participates as a member of the Team, fostering strong cohesiveness and coordinating work to ensure best practices.
  • Attends appropriate team meetings.
  • Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team to resolve issues.
  • Is familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies) and understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity and support these systems.
  • Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
