Requirements

• Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program
• Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment
• An equivalent combination of experience and training
• Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed, or equivalent
• Active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment
• Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of employment
• Ability to perform essential job functions

Nice To Haves

• Operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission
• Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment
• All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period
• This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations

Responsibilities

• Fix cars, trucks, tractors, and construction equipment by replacing parts and correcting mechanical issues
• Carry out preventative maintenance including diagnostics, tune ups, tire changes, and system adjustments
• Complete official state safety and emissions inspections and perform any needed follow up repairs
• Use tools and testing devices to identify problems in vehicles, engines, and motorized hand equipment
• Maintain a clean work area, follow safety rules, and monitor hazards to prevent accidents
• Make routine adjustments and minor repairs in the field to support safe and efficient operation
