Requirements
- Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program
- Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment
- An equivalent combination of experience and training
- Possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License
- Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of employment
- Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment
- Pass the Department of Transportation’s New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period
- Possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N)
- Ability to perform essential job functions
- Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations
Responsibilities
- Repair cars, trucks, tractors, and heavy equipment and replace worn or damaged parts
- Carry out routine servicing tasks to maintain vehicles, engines, and mechanical systems
- Identify equipment problems using diagnostic tools and follow proper methods to complete repairs
- Complete safety and emissions inspections and perform needed adjustments to meet standards
- Maintain a clean work area, follow safety procedures, and recognize hazards to reduce risks
- Perform adjustments and minor repairs in the field to ensure safe operation and reduce wear
