Requirements

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed or equivalent.
  • Possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N).
  • Employees to pass the Department of Transportation’s New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
  • Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations at time of application.
  • An active Pennsylvania Class 4 or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification at time of application.
  • Subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Must pass a background investigation.

  • Possession of an active Hazardous Materials Endorsement (H).

Responsibilities

  • Overhaul and repair cars, trucks and heavy equipment including transmissions, brakes, and electrical components
  • Carry out diagnostics, tune-ups and system adjustments to maintain engines, cooling systems, and fuel components
  • Complete safety and emissions inspections, perform required repairs, and document results accurately
  • Use diagnostic tools to identify issues, determine repair steps, and service motorized hand equipment
  • Maintain a clean work area, follow protective practices, and report incidents to reduce hazards
  • Assist other mechanics, demonstrate repair techniques, and maintain detailed equipment records
