About The Position

Assists the Radiologist with invasive procedures and moderate sedation within the diagnostic imaging department. Provides patient care using radiological and nursing education and experience in accordance with the Delaware Nursing Practice Act. The role requires knowledge and skills to provide direct patient care to the full spectrum of the patient population.

Requirements

• RN diploma or RN degree program.
• Registered Nurse license from the State of Delaware or a Compact State.
• ACLS and BLS certification from the American Heart Association.

• One year of experience in Diagnostic Imaging.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a complete working knowledge of equipment in the department related to the position’s duties.
• Maintain knowledge of sterile supplies and techniques used for procedures in the assigned area.
• Assist the physician with scrub duties using sterile technique to prevent cross-contamination; set up trays and prepare and position patients.
• Assist the physician in the circulator role, including positioning patients for digital films and administering medications or contrast under physician supervision in accordance with departmental policy.
• Administer moderate sedation and monitor patients to provide safe care, following hospital policies and procedures for administration, monitoring, and documentation.
• Review patient charts for relevant information, including indicators that may suggest patient risk, and assist with transporting patients.
• Provide radiation protection for patients, staff, and self according to prescribed safety standards; follow department policy for personal monitoring devices and apply ALARA principles.
• Ensure the crash cart and drug box are accurately supplied and dated.
• Recognize emergency situations and initiate code procedures or administer first aid or CPR as needed.
• Prepare and administer contrast media or medications under the Radiologist’s supervision.
• Demonstrate knowledge of access site management.
• Participate in performance improvement, including evaluating, reporting, and following up on recommendations.
