DevOps Technical Project Manager

Magnopus•Los Angeles, CA
•$80,000 - $140,000

About The Position

The DevOps Technical Project Manager serves as the program lead for Magnopus’s Pipeline team, which builds and supports tools, automation, and workflows for linear film and interactive projects. Working with agile development teams, the role plans, prioritizes, and tracks work; aligns the Pipeline roadmap with studio project needs; and removes obstacles that impede artists, engineers, and producers. The position bridges production and technology. It requires technical depth to understand tools, builds, and pipelines and to communicate credibly with pipeline developers and engineers, as well as an understanding of how linear film pipelines move work from asset creation through final delivery. The role works frequently with Production, Engineering, creative leads, and studio leadership, and occasionally with vendors and partners. The successful candidate promotes collaborative decisions, provides direction and urgency, evaluates risks objectively, and makes sound decisions with minimal guidance in a fast-moving environment with some ambiguity.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of project or program management experience, including at least two years managing agile software, DevOps, or pipeline teams.
  • Demonstrated technical experience, such as a background in software or tools development, pipeline, build engineering, or DevOps, sufficient to understand architecture, workflows, and technical tradeoffs.
  • Understanding of production pipelines for linear film work, such as VFX or animation, asset management, review and approval, and delivery.
  • Working proficiency with Jira, Confluence, Slack, GitHub, and Perforce.
  • Experience running agile teams using Scrum, Kanban, or a hybrid approach, including planning, backlog management, and retrospectives.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, usually at different lifecycle stages.
  • Ability to lead and manage multidisciplinary teams in a matrix management environment.
  • Understanding of internal customer requirements and ability to communicate them to multi-tiered audiences.
  • Ability to negotiate scope, schedule, and resource tradeoffs.
  • Ability to develop program plans focused on performance, budget, and schedule goals.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts productively.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven ability to build collaboration among team members.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with interactive or real-time pipelines.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD and build automation concepts.
  • An agile or project management certification, such as PMP or CSM.

Responsibilities

  • Project manage the Pipeline team using agile practices, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives, supporting all studio projects.
  • Partner with Production, Engineering, and creative leads to gather pipeline needs, translate them into a prioritized backlog, and balance competing demands between linear film and interactive projects.
  • Track dependencies between pipeline tools, workflows, and project milestones, and communicate the impact of changes, releases, and delays to affected teams.
  • Manage the planning toolchain, including Jira projects, boards, workflows, and dashboards; maintain roadmaps, documentation, and decision logs in Confluence; and use Slack to inform teams and stakeholders.
  • Work closely enough with GitHub and Perforce to understand release and integration status and plan around them.
  • Create, develop, and manage schedules, roadmaps, and resource plans, delivering within agreed time, budget, and resource constraints.
  • Identify and manage risks, dependencies, and blockers across projects; create contingency plans and decide on and execute them when required.
  • Plan and track budgets for tools, licenses, and vendor services, seeking efficient use of resources and cost reduction.
  • Report program status to audiences including the team, peers, department heads, and executive staff.
  • Bridge technical and non-technical stakeholders by explaining technical constraints and tradeoffs clearly.
  • Drive continuous improvement of team processes and workflows, using data such as sprint velocity and turnaround times to identify opportunities.

Benefits

  • Ongoing education and mentorship opportunities through employee guilds.
  • Generous health care.
