About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is seeking a Developmental Technician II for the Caswell Developmental Center. This role involves providing direction, support, and assistance to staff during shifts to ensure operations meet individual needs. The position actively participates in the implementation and maintenance of training objectives, services, and supports within each individual's habilitation plan. Duties include training and support with personal care, domestic skills, leisure-social skills, self-management, ensuring supervision and safety, assisting in program and/or training areas, transporting individuals, community integration, providing emergency treatment, housekeeping, and record keeping.

Requirements

  • High School or General Educational Development Diploma and one year of related work experience; or An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Good general health including the ability to physically lift individuals as necessary.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds on a regular basis (6-8 times daily).
  • Ability to stoop, bend, walk, run short distances (50 yards) and climb stairs without limitations of a permanent nature to provide adequate supervision of the assigned population in the home.

  • Ability to make observations and make written and oral reports.
  • Ability to do simple math computations and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Successful completion of Caswell Center's inservice training requirements.
  • Two years’ experience as DT I or Three years of direct experience with people who have developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction, support, and assistance to staff during the shift through assignments to ensure shift operations meet individual’s needs.
  • Assure the physical and emotional well-being of individuals.
  • Actively participate in the implementation and maintenance of priority training objectives, services, and supports comprising each individual’s habilitation plan.
  • Provide training and support with personal care, domestic skills, leisure-social skills, and self-management.
  • Ensure the supervision and safety of individuals.
  • Assist in program and/or training areas.
  • Transport individuals to scheduled activities, classes, medical and dental appointments.
  • Assist in shopping with and for individuals.
  • Facilitate community integration.
  • Assist in providing emergency treatment for seizures or accidents.
  • Perform housekeeping chores as necessary.
  • Perform record keeping and documentation.
  • Supervise staff and make assignments necessary for shift operations and meeting individual’s needs.
  • Perform related timekeeping functions.
