About The Position

The Development Intern supports the Development and Corporate Relations team in advancing fundraising and operational efforts for signature events, including the annual CHCI Leadership Conference and Gala during Hispanic Heritage Month. This role provides hands-on experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor engagement, and event operations while offering essential administrative and project support to the development team. Working closely with development staff and cross-functional teams, the intern will gain exposure to donor stewardship, event logistics, data management, and day-to-day development operations that support one of the nation’s leading Latino leadership organizations.

Requirements

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduate, with an interest in nonprofit management, fundraising, communications, business, public policy, or related field.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Independently meet time-sensitive deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
  • Have a customer service mentality internally and externally.
  • Be flexible and have a positive attitude and willingness to step in where needed.
  • Commitment to the mission of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute

Nice To Haves

  • Interest and/or experience in fundraising, event planning, development, or nonprofit operations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, web platforms, and Salesforce.
  • Demonstrated interest in Latino leadership development, civic engagement, or public policy.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and execution of fundraising activities related to the CHCI Leadership Conference and Gala. This can include, but not be limited to: taking notes in meetings, making calls, data entry, writing memos, and doing internet research.
  • Support sponsorship and donor engagement efforts by helping prepare materials, track outreach, and organizing follow-ups.
  • Provide logistical and on-site event support, as needed.
  • Assist the development team with basic prospect research and data gathering under staff supervision.
  • Help maintain donor and partner records, ensuring information is accurate and up to date.
  • Provide administrative support related to development operations, including data entry and reporting.
  • Assist with CRM-related tasks (e.g., Salesforce), such as updating donor records and tracking opportunities.
  • Benefit Fulfillment Tracking: Cross-checking information from multiple sources
  • Sponsor deliverables – Invoice requests
  • Salesforce Dashboard Reports - Logo/Name Listing on website, social media and printed materials
  • Awards Gala – Table assignment tracking, Seating donation process
  • Provide general administrative support to the development team, including scheduling assistance and document preparation.
  • Take meeting notes and assist with organizing materials and action items.
  • Support account managers and senior staff during peak periods with proposals, invoices, and project coordination.
