About The Position

This role involves reviewing preliminary building construction plans to ensure compliance with the City of Orlando's Land Development Codes and other applicable codes, ordinances, or standards. The technician will explain reasons for approval or disapproval and utilize knowledge of development impact fees. Work is performed under close supervision for Technician I, and under general supervision for Technician II. The Technician II role also involves consulting with developers and property owners to explain compliance issues and offer alternatives.

Requirements

• Associate's Degree in Engineering Technology, Business, or related field and two (2) years experience in construction, permitting, planning, drafting, or related field for Technician I.
• Associate's Degree in Engineering Technology, Business, or related field and four (4) years related experience in construction, permitting, planning, drafting, or related field for Technician II.
• Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Two (2) years of direct experience in lieu of an associate degree.
• Four (4) years of direct experience in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
• Six (6) years of direct experience in lieu of a master's degree.
• Nine (9) years of direct experience in lieu of a doctoral degree.

Responsibilities

• Reviews preliminary building construction plans to ensure compliance with the City of Orlando's Land Development Codes and other applicable codes, ordinances, or standards in assigned areas of responsibilities (such as new and existing residential or commercial buildings, signage, driveways, parking areas, and landscapes).
• Explains reasons for approval or disapproval.
• Utilizes working fiscal knowledge of development impact fees for commercial and residential construction.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Consults with developers and property owners to explain reasons for approval or disapproval and offer alternatives to meet compliance (Technician II only).
