About the position
This full-time Mechanical Engineer position is responsible for developing over-voltage and overcurrent protection devices for the Phoenix Contact Regional Business Unit, SPT. The ideal candidate will have experience designing molded electrical equipment housings for IP67 environments. Key job duties include developing unique solutions to problems, approving documents and milestone stage gates, and participating directly with the quality department in defining the AQ and/or QC process. Must-have qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, 4-7 years of relevant experience, and refined skills in 3D modeling and 2D drawings. The candidate must also be able to travel by air, occasionally travel overseas for extended periods, and lift 25 lbs.
Responsibilities
- Develop over-voltage and overcurrent protection devices for the Phoenix Contact Regional Business Unit, SPT (System Protection Technologies), located in Middletown PA
- Work independently and as part of an international team to develop products including 3D / 2D CAD, mechanical/simulation analyses, verification testing, and qualification planning/acceptance in partnership with the Phoenix Contact global test lab
- Manage design for cost and manufacturability through collaboration with US-based manufacturing and international component-supply partners
- Design molded electrical equipment housings for IP67 environments
- Work with more experienced team members to develop unique solutions to problems
- Approve documents and milestone stage gates as Mechanical Engineering development representative
- Participate directly with the quality department in defining the AQ and/or QC process
- Assist with preparing presentations
- Review and evaluate technical reports and analysis performed by internal/external engineering personnel
- Interpret geometric tolerancing, inspection, and test data
- Refine skills in 3D modeling and 2D drawings
- Know corporate and industry standards

- Design molded IP 67 housings preferred
- Occasionally travel overseas for extended periods as required
- Occasionally travel domestically as required
- Sit for extended periods of time

Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 4-7 years of relevant experience preferred
- Ability to interpret geometric tolerancing, inspection, and test data
- Refined skills in 3D modeling and 2D drawings
- Knowledge of corporate and industry standards

- Design of molded IP 67 housings preferred
- Mechanical FEA simulation experience a plus
- Ability to travel by air
