About The Position

The Norton seeks a Development Associate for Individual Giving to work in-person with the fundraising professionals of the Major Gifts team to cultivate and steward individual donor relationships and manage crucial processes and projects that strengthen the Museum’s strategic vision and community impact. This position will interface internally and externally with major donors (giving annually at the $10,000 level and above) and support the Norton’s robust Individual Giving program responsible for securing over $4.5 million in annual support. This role offers a unique opportunity for anyone interested in expanding or developing a passion for nonprofit fundraising in conjunction with fine art and cultural organizations. A successful candidate must be able to collaborate in a team setting, possess strong interpersonal skills including effective written and verbal communication abilities, and be able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. This position that will report to the Development Officer for Individual Giving and support the work of the Individual Giving and Major Gifts team. Success in this role is defined by accurate and timely donor stewardship, strong CRM data integrity, consistent and reliable reporting, and effective support of cultivation and engagement strategies for the Museum’s $10,000+ donor base.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 3+ years of experience in event planning, development, fundraising, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience supporting complex, high-profile events and/or donor engagement activities
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize, manage multiple deadlines, and perform in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a professional, donor-facing approach
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships across internal teams, external stakeholders, vendors, and community partners
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and sound judgment in dynamic or high-pressure situations
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Commitment to professionalism, discretion, and the highest ethical standards in handling confidential information
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with CRM or donor database systems required (Altru preferred)
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays in support of events and donor activities
  • Ability to respond to time-sensitive communications outside standard business hours when required
  • At the time of employment, employees are expected to be located within reasonable commuting distance of the museum. Commuting Distance means they are located in South Florida, and able to commute to and from the Museum in a single day.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Individual Giving team’s efforts to cultivate, steward, and sustain relationships with donors and prospects to generate major gifts and annual support.
  • Assist with identifying funding opportunities and preparing sponsorship, solicitation, stewardship, and impact reporting materials for individual donors, including Chairman’s Circle, Luminary Circle, Curatorial Councils, and Annual Fund supporters.
  • Draft, prepare, and proofread donor correspondence, outreach materials, reports, invitations, and other communications to ensure accuracy and professionalism.
  • Respond to donor inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain accurate donor records in Altru, including constituent updates, gift documentation, stewardship tracking, and donor interaction notes to support fundraising strategy and reporting.
  • Conduct donor and prospect research and support prospect management efforts.
  • Collaborate with Curatorial Research Associates (CRAs), Curators, the Development Associate for Donor Events, and the Individual Giving team to support prospecting, donor outreach, annual solicitations, renewals, and engagement activities.
  • Coordinate donor communications, meeting logistics, scheduling, follow-up, and material preparation for donor cultivation and stewardship activities.
  • Support Annual Fund initiatives, including campaign planning, solicitation execution, donor engagement, and collaboration with Communications and Marketing.
  • Provide on-site support for VIP donor events, including occasional evening and weekend hours, with responsibilities focused on logistics and donor experience.
  • Contribute ideas to improve donor stewardship, engagement strategies, and internal processes.
  • Support the Development Operations and Stewardship Officer, as needed, with the timely processing, acknowledgment, and stewardship of individual major gifts, including gift agreements, pledge forms, reminders, invoices, donor correspondence, and related materials.
  • Create, run, and distribute monthly revenue and fundraising reports for Individual Giving initiatives.
  • Support donor impact and endowment reporting, gift entry coordination, verification processes, and expense tracking to ensure accurate and consistent Individual Giving records and revenue reporting.
  • Support the annual budgeting process for Individual Giving and Major Gifts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
