About The Position

The Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) and its advocacy affiliate, BPC Action, are seeking a talented and motivated Development Assistant to join their team. This role is ideal for a newer development professional aiming to build a career in nonprofit fundraising. The Development Assistant will provide crucial support to the entire development team across BPC’s six program areas and BPC Action. This position offers exposure to fundraising across corporate, foundation, and individual giving portfolios. The BPC Development Team is responsible for leading, executing, and tracking all external fundraising and revenue generation, as well as stewarding funding relationships. They aim to instill a culture of fundraising, business development, and donor stewardship throughout the organization by identifying, building, and maintaining donor relationships, ensuring fundraising efforts align with BPC’s strategy, fostering cross-organizational collaboration, meeting fundraising targets, and achieving excellence.

Requirements

  • Up to 1 year of relevant experience in fundraising or a related field, preferably at a nonprofit organization, and a demonstrated interest in building a career in fundraising.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn fundraising tools including CRM and wealth screening software such as Salesforce, Candid Foundation Directory, DonorSearch and iWave.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research, compile findings, and synthesize information for a lay audience.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills; ability to take direction and follow through on tasks with minimal supervision and collaborate with a team.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and tasks while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive donor, political, and organizational strategy information.
  • Commitment to BPC’s mission and ability to translate that passion into compelling written communications for donors and stakeholders.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. BPC does not sponsor employment visas.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative and logistical support to gift officers and the broader Development team.
  • Act as a coordinator for the Development team, including planning and executing meetings and events (e.g., coordinating calendars, preparing materials, taking and distributing notes, and coordinating follow-up activities).
  • Assist gift officers with donor correspondence, including donation acknowledgments and fundraising outreach on behalf of the Managing Director and the Development team.
  • Assist gift officers with invoice tracking and coordination for corporate renewals and sponsorship packages.
  • Provide surge support to the Development Coordinator with grant reports, helping with tracking deadlines, assembling required materials, and assisting with final report submissions.
  • Assist in maintaining Development records and CRM data, including constituent information in Salesforce and team files in SharePoint, supporting accurate and up-to-date tracking across all fundraising activity.
  • Support prospect research on current and prospective donors, including assisting gift officers with briefing materials for BPC’s senior executives and preparing materials for donor meetings.
  • Assist with background research to support the monthly prospect meeting, including pulling donor histories and preparing relevant materials in advance.
  • Represent the Development team at BPC events, including summits and convenings such as the Housing Summit, supporting donor engagement and relationship stewardship on-site.
  • Assist with material support for Development events and roundtables in Washington and across the country, including preparing materials and tracking RSVPs.
  • Stay current on fundraising industry best practices by regularly reading relevant publications, attending webinars, and sharing key takeaways with the team.
