About The Position

Bread for the World is a Christian advocacy organization focused on urging U.S. decision-makers to end hunger. The Karen Sue Smith and Rose DiMartino Internship Program offers a chance to contribute to this mission while gaining supervised learning, personal development, and work experience. This part-time internship (22.5 hours per week) is for the Fall 2026 semester (September - December) and is based in Washington, DC. The Development department seeks an engaged individual interested in learning about various aspects of development through hands-on experience, providing support during a critical time for end-of-year fundraising preparation. Interns will gain insight into the fundraising process within a nonprofit organization.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a BA or BS degree.
  • Some prior office work experience.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office Suite, database software, and Internet research.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills (written, oral, and electronic).
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Commitment to the mission of Bread for the World.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Raisers’ Edge database.
  • Administrative and fundraising experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with Foundation fundraising by researching grant prospects and writing briefings.
  • Assist with major donor fundraising by conducting donor research, including church contacts.
  • Call donors to express thanks or encourage continued church support.
  • Perform data cleanup in the database.
  • Keep staff updated on Bread for the World updates for donor stewardship.
  • Assist with membership fundraising through filling and administrative support.
  • Improve donor experience through customer service.
  • Participate in department meetings.
  • Work on additional projects as requested.
