About The Position

The Developer/Programmer Analyst III will support the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) on the Texas Birth Defects Registry (TBIRDS) electronic case reporting (eCR), data interoperability, and modernization project. This temporary position is within the DSHS Birth Defects Epidemiology and Surveillance Branch (BDESB). The role will conduct a needs assessment to identify business requirements for ingesting electronic initial case reports (eICRs) into TBIRDS and auto-populating selected fields to expedite record abstraction. The position will primarily develop automated processes between systems for extracting, validating, and using eICR data. It will also lead projects to automate branch processes, including clinical case review, and build dashboards related to eCR implementation and data modernization. In collaboration with BDESB program, epidemiology, and technical staff, the Programmer Analyst will deliver solutions that reduce manual data review, improve eCR data usability, and support integration of electronic health data into existing surveillance workflows. The role is hybrid, with on-site and telework work arrangements, and is based at 1100 W. 49th Street, Austin, Texas 78756. Candidates must currently reside within 50 miles of Austin; candidates planning to relocate will not be considered. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, excluding State holidays.
