About The Position

The PHES (Propulsion-HVAC & Engine Systems) Senior Designer position supports the Propulsion HVAC and Engine Systems Design Services team. The designer uses NX CAD to perform packaging, concept development, design, layout, and checking for engine-system components. This includes routing and development of exhaust systems, such as hot-end and cold-end systems, and air-induction systems, such as air boxes, ducts, hoses, and engine covers.

The role includes creating explicit geometry and parametric models, conducting advanced packaging feasibility and manufacturability studies, assessing packaging for new components and systems, collaborating with engineers on manufacturing and service studies, redesigning models and complex assemblies to improve design quality, and conducting commonization studies. The position may involve 0–20% domestic and international travel.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in design, engineering, or a related area of study, with relevant training or experience in design or engineering.
• At least 7 years of design experience.
• At least 7 years of experience with NX or CATIA; a basic skills test may be administered.
• Extensive experience with NX parametric solid modeling and Teamcenter.
• Strong written and oral communication skills to lead design and packaging meetings.
• Strong organization, planning, and data-management skills.
• Ability to create designs in accordance with engineering standards.
• NX Mechanical Routing experience.
• Ability to understand, create, and interpret 2D drawings and 3D models, and apply tolerancing.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a bachelor's degree in an engineering- or technology-related discipline.
• Extensive experience using NX or CATIA for parametric solid modeling.
• At least 7 years of Air Induction Systems design and releasing experience.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively within an extended team.
• Experience designing complex CAD models, assemblies, and components.
• Self-starter comfortable managing multiple assignments.
• Ability to apply GD&T and perform component stacks.
• Knowledge of automotive systems and subsystems.
• Knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes.

Responsibilities

• Create explicit geometry, including through parametric modeling.
• Complete advanced packaging feasibility studies.
• Complete manufacturability and/or feasibility studies.
• Assess packaging for new components and systems, including air induction, cooling, HVAC, fuels, and exhaust systems.
• Work with engineers to complete manufacturing and service studies.
• Redesign models and complex assemblies to improve design quality.
• Conduct commonization studies.
• Use NX CAD to develop packaging, concepts, designs, layouts, and checks for engine-system components, including exhaust and air-induction systems.
