About The Position

The Design Engineer Intern assists construction engineering operations to help ensure construction work complies with engineering standards. The position supports bidding and construction through drawing interpretation, documentation, material and schedule coordination, change-order and estimate support, quantity take-offs, and cost-control recordkeeping. It is intended for a student working toward a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and offers hands-on experience, mentorship, and networking opportunities.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED and currently working toward a bachelor's degree.
• 0–2 years of experience in construction estimating support, engineering, field support, or similar work.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to perform trigonometric calculations manually or with a calculator.
• Ability to take responsibility and communicate and interact effectively with others.
• Valid driver's license and ability to drive.
• Ability and willingness to comply with the company's Code of Conduct.
• Ability to comply with, understand, and support corporate safety initiatives.

Nice To Haves

• Field of study in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field.

Responsibilities

• Interpret designs and drawings to support take-offs, workforce planning, bidding, and construction projects.
• Prepare and distribute documentation to a supervisor, including status reports, punch lists, sketches of completed work, and material requirement calculations.
• Provide technical support and direction regarding project materials, including specification compliance, delivery dates, and construction schedules.
• Assist with change orders and estimates by preparing drawings and sketches that support estimating and construction work as job requirements change.
• Develop job data, including quantity take-offs and material pricing, to support accurate estimates and bids.
• Maintain accurate records of work quantities and installed materials for construction project cost controls.
