About The Position

This is a hands-on internship with the Kenworth Chillicothe Design Engineering team, focused on product design improvements, project implementation, prototype support, and supporting goals of other factory departments. The intern provides engineering advice for design or installation problems encountered in manufacturing and works with Division Engineering, Production, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials, and Quality Assurance to develop design improvements across chassis systems and implement engineering projects. The role also supports prototype trials, kaizen and Six Sigma projects, warranty reduction, and quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Progress toward a degree in a related engineering field.
• Must be a junior- or senior-level student.
• Demonstrated ability to understand complex tasks.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to organize and manage projects and prototypes.
• Ability to read and use engineering drawings and schematics.
• Proficiency in all applications within the Microsoft Office suite.
• Experience with Pro/Engineer or other 3D modeling software.

Nice To Haves

• Truck or automotive experience, with demonstrated understanding of mechanical and electrical devices and manufacturing processes.
• Understanding of the product development cycle.
• EIT.

Responsibilities

• Proactively define issues and reach early resolution and consensus.
• Provide engineering advice for specific design or installation problems encountered in manufacturing.
• Work with Division Engineering, Production, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials, and Quality Assurance to develop design improvements across various chassis systems and implement new engineering projects.
• Run prototype trials before project implementation.
• Provide appropriate engineering representation for kaizen, Six Sigma, warranty reduction, and quality improvement projects.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
