About The Position

The Design Engineer Intern assists construction engineering operations to ensure construction work complies with engineering standards. The role supports bidding and construction through design interpretation, documentation, material coordination, estimating, and cost-control records. The position is intended for a student working toward a bachelor's degree in a related field and offers hands-on experience, mentorship, and networking opportunities.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED and currently working toward a bachelor's degree.
• 0–2 years of experience in construction estimating support, engineering, field support, or similar work.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to perform trigonometric calculations manually or with a calculator.
• Ability to assume responsibility and communicate and interact effectively with others.
• Team-player approach.
• Ability and willingness to follow the Company's Code of Conduct daily.
• Valid driver's license and ability to drive.
• Must be safety-conscious when working around large construction equipment.

Nice To Haves

• Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field of study is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interpret designs and drawings to prepare takeoffs and support workforce planning for bidding and construction projects.
• Prepare and distribute required documentation to a supervisor, including status reports, punch lists, sketches of completed work, and material requirement calculations.
• Provide technical support and direction on project materials to help ensure they meet specifications and align with delivery dates and construction schedules.
• Assist with change orders and estimates by preparing drawings and sketches that support estimating and construction work as job requirements change.
• Develop job data, including quantity takeoffs and material pricing, to support accurate estimates and bids.
• Maintain accurate records of work quantities and installed materials for construction project cost controls.
• Comply with and support corporate safety initiatives to maintain a safe work environment.
