About The Position

First Quality Tissue SE, LLC is seeking a Design Engineer in Anderson, South Carolina. The role uses 2-D and 3-D CAD systems to design and oversee fabrication and installation of machine parts, sub-assemblies, and schematic designs that support Production, Product Development, Facilities, and Engineering improvement projects. The Design Engineer prepares and updates CAD documentation and building/equipment arrangements, maintains drawing records and document controls, and supports mechanical design and optimization for manufacturing processes.

The position works with manufacturing disciplines and teams across Production, Process, Warehousing, Facilities, and Engineering. It also serves as a liaison between technical departments and Engineering, evaluates proposed designs and changes, helps resolve system malfunctions, and provides technical information. The role has access to product design and company drawing files and must maintain strict document control and confidentiality.

Requirements

• A four-year BS degree in 3-D product/machine design, or a two-year AS degree in CAD or a design discipline with 3–5 years of experience using current CAD technology for parts detailing and small assembly designs.
• Strong CAD proficiency and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
• Problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Communication skills to engage people and build understanding at all levels of the organization.
• Strong computer skills, organizational skills, and equipment vendor management skills.
• Clear formal and informal communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to learn machinery operation quickly and assist with troubleshooting and design improvements.

Nice To Haves

• Direct experience overseeing outside machine-shop fabrication and on-site trade contractors.
• Experience in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.
• Experience with 2-D electrical and P&ID drawings.
• Experience with Autodesk software such as AutoCAD, Inventor, Navisworks, and Vault Professional.

Responsibilities

• Use limited sketches and red-marked drawings, working with manufacturing disciplines to prepare CAD documentation for changes and updates.
• Prepare architectural building and equipment arrangements in CAD, applying construction knowledge and collaborating with Production, Process, Warehousing, Facilities, and Engineering.
• Modify building drawings when needed for insurance underwriting, compliance permitting, office changes or additions, and new buildings.
• Update and maintain accurate documentation across Civil, Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, and Process drawings.
• Secure electronic and hard-copy documentation using methods that make it easy for end users to find and use; create indexed files with hyperlinks and maintain a backlog of incomplete items.
• Develop expertise in Autodesk Vault and help maintain and own the Vault.
• Work with CAD and Design personnel to maintain and improve drawing control and management systems that protect company intellectual property.
• Design and optimize mechanical components for manufacturing processes in support of Project Engineering.
• Liaise between technical departments and Engineering; assist with design criteria and evaluate proposed system changes.
• Confer with system engineers and other personnel on operating procedures, system malfunctions, and technical information.
• Research and analyze internal customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements.
• Maintain strict document control over product designs and company drawing files, and discuss potentially proprietary process changes only with involved parties.
• Complete multiple tasks within short timeframes and collaborate effectively under time pressure.
• Comply with company policies for email, intranet, and electronic media etiquette.
• Learn new machinery operations and assist others with troubleshooting and design improvements.
