Design Engineer

Novig
•$200,000 - $260,000•Onsite

About The Position

Novig is building a sports prediction market intended to make sports trading fairer and more accessible. As a Design Engineer, you will work at the intersection of design and frontend engineering with the design and engineering teams to create polished product experiences. The work includes prototyping in code, testing with real users, and shipping fast, fluid experiences. Novig’s design approach is AI-first and craft-first: use tools such as Claude Code to move from ideas to working software, test on real devices with real users, and refine motion, interactions, and details. The role involves translating design direction into code, developing motion principles and scalable design-system patterns, using user feedback to improve flows, and partnering with engineers to ensure performance and accessibility. The environment is fast-paced and ownership-oriented. Work is tied to live sports, so nights, weekends, and pressure may be involved. The role is based at Novig’s Union Square office in New York City.

Requirements

  • Ability to use AI tools to translate ideas into working code and iterate on implementations.
  • Ability to work across design and frontend engineering and turn design direction into code.
  • Ability to prototype in code and incorporate feedback from real users.
  • Knowledge of accessibility practices, including semantic structure, navigation, focus states, and motion preferences.
  • Comfort working quickly and taking ownership in a fast-paced environment.
  • Clear and thoughtful communication.

Responsibilities

  • Use AI to translate ideas into working code, prototype approaches, generate components, and iterate from initial concept through implementation.
  • Work with design leads to implement and refine product experiences, including transitions and small interaction details.
  • Help define motion principles through transitions, animations, and micro-interactions.
  • Turn design principles into scalable components and repeatable patterns, and evolve the design system to support distinctive, brand-driven experiences.
  • Build interactive prototypes and use user research tools to gather feedback and improve user flows before creating production-ready patterns.
  • Build fast, inclusive, and reliable experiences using accessibility best practices for semantic structure, navigation, focus states, and motion preferences.
  • Partner with engineers to debug and optimize experiences over time.
  • Move quickly with ownership, curiosity, and clear, thoughtful communication.

Benefits

  • $200,000–$260,000 base salary.
