About The Position

CLARK Material Handling Company, a 100-year-old global leader in the material handling and forklift industry, is seeking qualified candidates for a Design Engineer position. The Design Engineer will be part of a project team responsible for the design and development of new products or the redesign of current products. This role involves performing engineering functions to design and/or redesign products in accordance with quality, production, and customer standards, and is involved in organizing and executing various engineering and other tasks associated with creating and implementing product designs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or physical science
  • 0-2 years of engineering experience, with an emphasis on mobile equipment design preferred
  • Basic mechanical understanding of fork truck design and operation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Must be able to travel abroad including North America and Internationally
  • Must be able to work in the U.S. indefinitely

Responsibilities

  • Gather data concerning the product and its design from customer comments/complaints, existing designs, warranty reports, performance and endurance testing, etc., to identify criteria for new and/or modification designs.
  • Coordinate efforts with various internal and external departments including Marketing, Manufacturing, Vendors, Purchasers, Customers, and other Engineers.
  • Perform and oversee various quality checks to ensure trucks meet specifications.
  • Conduct various testing procedures, analyze results, and take corrective actions.
  • Create and develop new and/or revised product designs using NX design drafting system for output, layouts, detail drawings, and other required documentation.
  • Perform basic and complex calculations in mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic engineering.
  • Determine and analyze various design attributes such as strength, loads, forces, stress, tolerances, fluid pressure, and flow rates.
  • Field and answer questions about products and product design.
  • Communicate designs and changes through recommendations, proposals, and presentations.
  • Conduct and oversee the assembly, building, ordering, installation, and testing of prototype parts.
  • Oversee and perform testing functions to ensure tests are conducted as needed.
  • Check and verify the completeness and accuracy of all work performed by the incumbent and others.
  • Maintain a high level of technical competence, including knowledge of the product, customer needs, and competitor products.
  • Understand and apply standards set forth in UL, NFPA, ANSI, ISO, ITA, and others.
  • Implement, direct, and assist in quality improvement teams to improve manufacturing processes, efficiency, product quality, cost, and customer relations.
  • Make presentations and reports about team findings.
  • Travel to other facilities or places to participate in meetings and examine truck operation.
  • Investigate problems in product designs, which may require on-site observation, disassembly, inspection, and analysis of truck parts and components.
  • Assemble prototypes of trucks and/or truck components.
  • Share information and answer questions concerning planning, design, alterations, and production.
  • Participate as a team member in work, meetings, and teleconferences, including transferring information, improving working relationships, developing subordinates, and contributing to team success.
  • Show effective concern for the quality of all output and the needs, concerns, and priorities of all customers, both internal and external.
