Design Engineer II

Recaro Aircraft Seating Americas•Ft Worth, TX

About The Position

The Design Engineer II completes advanced design engineering activities for aircraft seats and components, ensuring designs comply with FAA regulations and customer and OEM requirements. The role requires advanced knowledge of aircraft seating manufacturing and processes, and includes piece-part and assembly design using CATIA Version 4 and 5, 3D modeling, and drawing drafting. The engineer also participates in customer meetings and advises customers on drawings. The position designs complex aircraft seat components, creates 2D drawings from 3D models, responds to customer concerns through design changes, and supports project engineering, purchasing, production, and suppliers. It also contributes to overseas engineering and program-management discussions, bills of material, design-change documentation, and presentations covering design direction or issues. Familiarity with CFR, EASA CS, and (E)TSO regulations and high-variant parts lists is a plus.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant Engineering field, with 3–5 years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience with CATIA v5 or similar is required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is required.
  • Knowledge of PLM-based database systems such as Teamcenter, Agile, or Enovia is required.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of engineering concepts and aircraft seat manufacturing processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the design of aircraft interiors.
  • Knowledge of aircraft documentation systems for after-sales, including CMM and SB, and aircraft configuration control systems.
  • Familiarity with CFR, EASA CS, and (E)TSO regulations and parts lists with high variant diversity.

Responsibilities

  • Design aircraft seats and components using CAD 2D/3D systems, including CATIA v5, to meet customer expectations and applicable regulations.
  • Detail-design complex sheet metal, machined, cast, or forged metal components and injection-molded or vacuum-formed plastic components.
  • Generate 2D drawings from 3D models using standard aerospace drafting practices and in-house drafting standards.
  • Respond to customer concerns by making compliant design changes to seats and components.
  • Participate in design meetings with project engineers to discuss engineering issues, design changes, and customer requests.
  • Support Purchasing and Production by providing documentation needed to source parts.
  • Interface with outside suppliers during the design process.
  • Participate in telecommunications with overseas engineers and program management, applying manufacturing engineering knowledge, discussing manufacturing issues, and suggesting potential seat-development topics and innovations.
  • Assist in creating bills of material for aircraft seat components and assemblies.
  • Verify that materials are appropriate for their use on the seat, including Primary Load Path and Secondary Load Path applications.
  • Assist in creating design-change notification documents.
  • Create presentations outlining design direction and design issues.
  • Participate in customer meetings and advise customers on drawings.
