About The Position

The Design Development Engineer works within the Electronic Photonic Design and Automation (EPDA)/Design Enablement group in Albany, New York. This is a hands-on individual-contributor role responsible for inline design of test structures and monitoring of electrical and photonics test structures for 300 mm Silicon Photonics technologies. The work draws on semiconductor device physics, testing methodologies, test-structure layout, data analysis, and parameter extraction. The engineer owns the design and layout of test structures for automated inline characterization and monitoring, develops test plans for electro-optic, passive, and electrical components, and helps debug test-related issues. The role also develops scripts and tools to analyze data and extract parameters, draws conclusions from results, and documents and presents findings internally. Other reasonable duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • BS, MS, or PhD and 10+ years of experience in a related area.
  • Understanding of process technology, ground rules, and device physics.
  • Understanding of test and measurement techniques for electrical and photonics measurements.
  • Experience designing test structures for automated characterization of electronic and photonic components, such as diodes, ring modulators, waveguides, splitters, metal resistances, and via chains.
  • Experience with automated test-structure layout using EDA software.
  • Experience characterizing electrical and photonic devices.
  • Experience analyzing data, developing scripts, and using statistical tools to process data.
  • Ability to work and collaborate with peers to improve efficiency and automated inline-monitoring solutions.
  • Satisfactory completion of a background check; annual background checks may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • 15+ years of experience combining areas such as device design, characterization, inline test-structure design, and modeling.
  • A mix of experience in CMOS and Silicon Photonics test-structure design.
  • Experience tracking and monitoring electrical data for inline wafers.
  • Prior hands-on experience developing test setups and characterizing devices in a laboratory setting.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design and layout of test structures for inline automated characterization and monitoring.
  • Develop and submit test plans for inline structures covering electro-optic, passive, and electrical components.
  • Understand and debug test-related issues.
  • Develop scripts and tools to analyze data, extract parameters, and draw conclusions.
  • Document and present results internally.
  • Perform other reasonable duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Medical, vision, and dental coverage.
  • Competitive pay and PTO.
  • Flexible health spending and dependent care accounts.
  • Basic and optional life insurance.
  • Post-retirement health insurance.
  • Employer contribution of 7% of earnings to a basic retirement plan after one year of service.
