About The Position

Havertys Furniture is seeking Interior Design Consultants or design graduates to help customers create home décor designs and select furniture and accessories. Consultants work with customers and sales consultants to design rooms, provide in-home, in-store, and virtual consultations, and create floor plans and photorealistic 3D renderings. The role also supports sales transactions, home visits, customer presentations, and follow-up while maintaining product knowledge and meeting sales and other performance metrics. The position offers paid training, an uncapped commission structure with a guaranteed income feature, and stated potential earnings of $55,000 to $100,000+ per year. Havertys reports that its Interior Design Consultants earned an average of $84,000 nationally in 2025. Associates work five days per week during retail hours, including nights and weekends, and must be flexible to accommodate customers’ schedules for home visits. The work takes place in a fast-paced, customer-focused showroom environment with a business professional dress code, as well as at customers’ homes when appointments are scheduled.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in interior design or a related field; or 2 to 4 years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and ability to drive and provide personal transportation to customer in-home appointments.
Reliable transportation and verification of at least the minimum state-required car insurance.
Experience with Microsoft Office.
Ability to work five days per week during retail hours, including nights and weekends, and flexibility to meet customers’ schedules for home visits.
Ability to frequently stand, walk, sit, handle or feel objects, reach, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; ability to occasionally lift and/or move more than 20 pounds; varying color recognition.

Nice To Haves

ASID certification is preferred.
Prior use of Room Planner software is beneficial.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office components, internet software, and full-shot image software is preferred.

Responsibilities

Work with customers and sales consultants to create room designs and recommend furniture and accessories.
Offer in-home, in-store, and virtual consultations to understand customers’ needs, style, investment, and spaces.
Create floor plans and photorealistic 3D renderings featuring Havertys furniture and accessories in customers’ homes.
Assist Sales Consultants in closing transactions by providing design knowledge to customers.
Assist Sales Consultants with scheduling or attending qualified home visits.
Coordinate with customers during home visits and final presentations to review selected items, pricing, and delivery schedules, when applicable.
Provide feedback to Sales Consultants and the Branch Manager after home visits and after completing floor plans and presentation boards.
Assist Sales Consultants with creating special-order SKUs and increasing sales reserves.
Provide constructive feedback to customers to help build sales and increase average tickets.
Maintain knowledge of special sales, financing plans, delivery procedures, warranties, and related information.
Reinforce customer selections and help bring sales to closure.
Use My Sales Center to access and follow up with customers, as needed.
Maintain knowledge of a broad range of furniture styles and products.
Maintain sales levels and other key metrics required by management.
Participate in sales training on the sales floor to learn the Havertys customer engagement process.
