About The Position

Byrne & Jones Construction is seeking a Design Build Integrator to manage and lead the design phase of design-build projects. This role is crucial for determining cost, quality, and risk before construction begins. The integrator will review plans and specifications, identify cost efficiencies, select and manage external engineering partners, and ensure all scope and risk are allocated before projects move to the field. This is a senior, high-visibility position for a professional who understands how to optimize project profitability.

Requirements

  • Ten or more years of experience across design and construction.
  • Experience coordinating design disciplines on design-build or alternative delivery projects.
  • Real field experience.
  • Experience managing large-scale construction projects, generally $5 million or greater.
  • Track record with external engineering consultants, including selection, scoping, fees, and deliverables.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and cost civil, structural, and specialty construction documents.
  • Ability to spot scope gaps before they become a contract.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Nice To Haves

  • PE license
  • DBIA certification
  • Sports facility design-build background
  • Specialty surfacing design-build background
  • Site and earthwork design-build background

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the single point of integration across internal engineering, external design partners, and the construction side of the business, from pursuit through project closeout.
  • Review every design milestone for accuracy, cost, constructability, and quality, and drive conflicts to documented resolution.
  • Identify savings in material and system selection, design alternatives, sequencing, and site and earthwork optimization, and capture them in the buy without compromising quality or safety.
  • Lead constructability, sequencing, and value-engineering reviews with Estimating, Project Management, and Field Operations, and verify accepted ideas are incorporated into construction documents.
  • Verify at each milestone that the developing design aligns with the contracted amount, and report variance and corrective action to the Vice President.
  • Select architectural, structural, MEP, geotechnical, landscape, and specialty firms; negotiate and administer their agreements and fees.
  • Structure design agreements and design-build subcontracts to ensure exposure sits with the party performing the work.
  • Ensure no project advances to construction without coordinated documents, closed scope, and a validated buy.
  • Keep permitting on schedule and deliverables compliant, working with internal and external engineering partners.
  • Deliver a documented design-to-construction handoff, and serve as the design point of contact for changes, submittals, and AHJ issues through closeout.
