About The Position

Perform a range of advanced administrative support and bookkeeping services to assist the County Treasurer’s office in providing taxpayer and related services for the County’s citizens. Positions of the class represent the advanced level of administrative support and bookkeeping work in the County Treasurer’s office. Job duties include some tasks performed by all Deputy Clerks in the Treasurer’s office such as receiving and receipting payments from taxpayers, providing assistance to taxpayers at a public service counter and making computer-based bookkeeping entries to record, tabulate and balance receipts. Other more complex assignments require a substantial degree of experience in the warrants for multiple taxing district creating and auditing sets of bookkeeping record, the processing of the daily warrants reconciliation, real estate excise tax affidavits, adjusting parcels by supplements, cancels and segregations, and processing of manufactured home sales, use tax collection and the movement permit process. These recording, processing and reporting tasks are performed using computer-based financial accounting systems and property tax database.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2 years Bookkeeping Principles and Methods
  • Desktop computer and financial accounting software operation
  • Applied office practices
  • 2 years customer service experience
  • Valid Driver’s License with proof of automobile insurance
  • Acceptable background record
  • Acceptable driving record

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • Experience in real estate property transfers
  • Bi-lingual in English/Spanish
  • County government experience

Responsibilities

  • Processing and Bookkeeping: These tasks involve the reconciliation of warrants issued for multiple taxing districts or to adjust parcels by supplements, cancels or segregations where corrected adjusted tax statements and refunds are processed. These tasks also include creating and auditing sets of tax associated bookkeeping records. Reconciliation of accounts involves application of advanced bookkeeping methods and procedures.
  • Payment Receipt and Customer Service: Tasks include receiving payments in person at a public service counter, website or by mail, issuing receipts, entering payment information according to various types of accounts such as taxes, interest or penalties, and making daily reconciliation of receipts. These receipts also may include accepting and receipting excise tax payments for the State Department of Revenue. Public contacts include service to customers by telephone and email.
  • Manufactured Homes: Tasks include compiling multiple and complex information to determine type of taxability or tax exemption on sales/gifts of manufactured homes. Also includes thorough research and examination of permits prior to approval for movement of a manufactured home.
