This position involves routine protective services work in maintaining the security and care of inmates at the County Jail and ensuring the security of the Roanoke County Courthouse Complex. Responsibilities include processing inmates, conducting security checks and searches, managing inmate mail, transporting inmates, attending to inmate needs, maintaining logs, supervising cleaning details, monitoring individuals entering and leaving the jail, processing entrants through security checkpoints, searching courtrooms for contraband, escorting and supervising inmates in the courthouse, and serving civil and criminal papers. The Deputy Sheriff I may be assigned to corrections, court services, or administrative divisions, performing various duties within each. The position requires 12-hour shifts, with a total of 24 hours of coverage needed. Salary is based on prior credible service.
