The Deputy Sheriff is an entry-level sworn law enforcement position within the Sheriff's Office. This role involves performing duties as assigned, including but not limited to Patrol Deputy, Water Patrol Deputy, and Court/Conveyance Deputy. Deputies may also participate in special units such as the Strategic Patrol Unit, Warrants Unit, K9 Handler, Courthouse Security, Domestic Violence Specialist, Evidence Technician, Evidence Custodian, Training Officer, SWAT Team, Dive Team, and Crisis Negotiations Team. Responsibilities include responding to citizen requests for assistance, investigating criminal activity and civil complaints, taking individuals into custody, guarding and caring for prisoners, restraining aggressive persons, engaging in physical altercations, observing for improper activities, enforcing traffic laws and ordinances, writing reports and documentation, testifying in court, and operating vehicles and equipment, including weapons. Deputies may be required to work overtime during emergencies as deemed by the Sheriff.
