About The Position

Perform a variety of Law Enforcement and Public Safety functions through teamwork and with the community of Gallatin County. The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office is seeking applicants for the position of Deputy Sheriff. This position requires a high level of problem-solving ability, self-initiative and the ability and willingness to work a majority of the time without direct supervision. Position may be located at any of the following offices: Bozeman, Big Sky, West Yellowstone, Three Forks.

Requirements

  • Meet minimum standards for the appointment and continued employment of public safety officers in the State of Montana in pursuant of Montana Administrative Rule (ARM) 23.13.201 as prescribed by the Montana Public Safety Officer Standards and Training Council.
  • Have a good driving record.
  • Possess or be able to possess a Montana driver's license.
  • Be in good physical condition.
  • Possess a Montana P.O.S.T. certification or be able to obtain within twelve (12) months of hire.
  • Have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to legally possess a firearm.
  • Have no felony convictions.
  • No domestic abuse convictions.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • React quickly and effectively to stressful situations.
  • Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems.
  • Clear and concise speech.
  • Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to perform essential functions of this position.
  • Pass a written exam.
  • Pass a physical fitness test.
  • Pass a psychological exam.
  • Pass a pre-employment physical.
  • Pass a criminal background check.
  • Successfully complete the Field Training Officer Program.
  • Obtain Montana P.O.S.T certification.
  • Maintain personal conduct and behavior on duty as well as off duty such that it does not bring discredit upon the Sheriff's Office or its members.
  • Possess a high level of problem-solving ability.
  • Possess self-initiative.
  • Ability and willingness to work a majority of the time without direct supervision.
  • Submit a resume.
  • Submit three (3) references.
