The Deputy Sheriff performs work involving general duty police work in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of County laws and other pertinent local and State laws. The position may be assigned to any of the divisions of the Department and involves work under general supervision, which includes an element of personal danger. The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not necessarily limited to, enforcing laws, patrolling assigned areas, investigating suspicious conditions and complaints, making arrests, handling traffic violations and accidents, assisting in emergencies, restoring order, conducting investigations of serious crimes, serving legal papers, performing jailer duties, overseeing prisoners, appearing in court, assisting on medical calls, and maintaining records.
