About The Position
Performs specific law enforcement and security duties particular to the Department of the Sheriff, transports inmates and detainees, and executes warrants and court orders; performs related duties as required.
Requirements
- Must be at least 19 years of age and have not reached their 43rd birthday on or before September 19, 2026 (time spent in military service may be deducted up to 7 years).
- Must be at least 20 years of age at the time of appointment.
- Graduates of a senior high school or possess a high school equivalency diploma before certification for appointment.
- Valid New York State Driver license required at the time of certification from the eligible list.
- Must be United States citizens at time of appointment.
- Must be legal residents of Nassau County or Suffolk County or Queens County by date of appointment from the eligible list.
Nice To Haves
- Candidates who are within 12 months of meeting the minimum age or attaining the minimum educational requirements following the date of examination may take the civil service exam, but will be restricted from certification until such requirements are met.

Benefits
- Salary: $62,657 - $127,037 (under the current collective bargaining agreement)
