About The Position

Under supervision of the Jail Lieutenant, this position’s duties include providing for the safety and security of the Clatsop County Jail. Receive, book, and lodge Adults in Custody (AIC). Maintain custody and surveillance of AIC. Transport AIC to and from court, medical appointments, and evaluations. Supervise AIC assigned to outside custody such as work crew. Protect the courthouse and grounds. This position is represented by the Clatsop County Law Enforcement Association (CCLEA) union. This recruitment is to create a pool of qualified applicants for the Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office Correction Division of Deputies.

Requirements

  • Minimum 21 years of age.
  • A United States citizen.
  • Possess and maintain driving privileges in the state of Oregon within 30 days after employment.
  • High school diploma or demonstrate successful completion of General Education Development (GED) test.
  • Must meet DPSST “Minimum Standards for Employment as a Law Enforcement Officer” OAR 259-008-0010.
  • Must pass entry-level pre-employment evaluations, including Oregon Physical Ability Test (ORPAT), drug screen, and psychological evaluation prior to appointment.
  • Must not have been convicted of any felonies nor any law involving the unlawful use, possession, delivery, or manufacture of a controlled substance, narcotic, or dangerous drug, nor any law involving dishonesty or moral turpitude as identified in Oregon Administrative Rules 259-008-0070.
  • Must be of good moral fitness as determined by a comprehensive background investigation, including credit check.
  • Possess Basic Corrections Certificate or can obtain within one year of original appointment.
  • Maintain Corrections Certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous college-level training or experience in law enforcement or corrections.
  • Knowledge of modern policies, procedures, and techniques for the custody, care, and transportation of AIC, applicable laws, ordinances, and jail standards.
  • Knowledge of investigative methods and techniques, first aid, use of fingerprinting, photographic, breathalyzer, and video monitoring equipment, and report writing.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
