About The Position

The Deputy Communications Director is a supervisory position that helps lead the planning and execution of the DSCC’s communications strategies and manage the communications department’s press staff and workflow.

  • Experience in planning and executing communications strategies
  • Experience managing press staff and workflow
  • Experience serving as a spokesperson and media contact
  • Experience developing and maintaining relationships with national reporters
  • Experience shaping media coverage
  • Experience building and executing communications plans
  • Experience working across departments
  • Experience supporting communications for high-level individuals (e.g., Chair, Vice Chairs)
  • Experience working with partner organizations, surrogates, and principals on communications needs

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a spokesperson for the Committee and a point of media contact.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with national reporters.
  • Shape media coverage of Senate races, the DSCC and specific candidates.
  • Work with the communications director to build and execute communications plans.
  • Manage and oversee other members of the Committee’s press team.
  • Work across departments to execute the DSCC’s overall communications strategies, including approving materials used by other DSCC departments.
  • Support the communications work of the DSCC Chair and Vice Chairs.
  • Work with partner organizations, surrogates and principals on communications needs relating to Senate races.
