About The Position

The Deputy Director assists the Director in all aspects of managing the Department. In this capacity, the incumbent either executes the authorities of the Director within agreed-upon areas or advises the Director on policies, programs, and activities of the Department. In the absence of the Director, the position serves as the Acting Director. The deputy director has primary responsibility for all day-to-day operations of the Department. In this capacity, is responsible for providing direction and review of matters dealing with personnel management, general administration, contracting, operating procedures, and routine program matters within the Department; and for identifying and calling to attention those areas in which the Director’s involvement is necessary or desirable. The deputy director cultivates and maintains liaison relationships with other departments, directors, elected officials, representatives of organizations, conservation groups, and environmental advocacy organizations to ensure the department is working in a coordinated and cooperative manner with other entities of the state and federal government while carrying out program activities. The deputy contributes and provides leadership to the establishment of a positive view of agency programs by participating in routine field visits and public speaking opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, accounting, finance, or a related field, and 10 years of progressively responsible related experience, including 5 years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Must reside in Montana (or move to Montana) to accept this position.
