About The Position

Georgia Military College announces an opening for Deputy Commandant: Operations. The Deputy Commandant: Operations Works for, and reports to, the Commandant of Cadets, the Deputy Commandant-Operations (DCO) serves in a critical senior leadership role within the Corps of Cadets and is responsible for the planning, synchronization, and execution of all daily Corps of Cadet operations, training, and activities. Manages, overseas, and ensures the Corps of Cadets daily care, health, wellness, fitness, safety, security, and feeding. Ensures the effective delivery of all cadet related programs to include training, discipline, physical fitness, leadership development, and major events involving the Corps of Cadets. Provides direct oversight to the Corps of Cadets Tactical Officers and is responsible for maintaining standards, enforcing policies, and ensuring the Corps of Cadets operate efficiently and is in alignment with institutional priorities/objectives. Collaborates closely with the Deputy Commandant – Recruiting to ensure operational capacity supports enrollment growth and cadet success. Serves as the central point for coordinating internal and external cadet support, Physical fitness training schedules, and leadership development initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and or five to eight years of relevant operational or military leadership experience.
  • Ability to wear military uniform or Service equivalent daily.
  • Ability to participate in and lead regular or daily physical fitness training.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard business systems.
  • Criminal background check and drug screen must be cleared before any candidate may begin working.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree
  • more than eight years of relevant operational or military leadership experience.
  • Prior battalion-level military operations, Executive Officer, or equivalent leadership experience.
  • Background work/experience in Army ROTC Cadet Command, Service Academies, or National Guard programs.
  • Active-duty experience.
  • Prior Military experience
  • U.S. Army Master Fitness Trainer qualification, other U.S. Service equivalent or civilian equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, synchronize, and execute all Corps of Cadets operations, training, and daily activities, ensuring efficient delivery of programs and alignment with institutional priorities.
  • Develop and manage the Corps Master Events List and training schedules, ensuring integration with institutional calendars and deconfliction across departments.
  • Provide direct oversight of Tactical Officers and cadet training programs, including Character and Leader Development Training and enforcement of standards and discipline.
  • Lead execution of major Corps events and external support missions, including ceremonies, leadership engagements, community support, and stakeholder requests.
  • Oversee specialized programs and operational assets including JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge (JCLC), physical fitness programs, and training facilities (e.g., rappel tower).
  • Support Service Academy and scholarship cadet programs by ensuring training readiness, administrative timelines, and program execution requirements are met.
  • Coordinate with Deputy Commandant – Recruiting to align operational capacity with recruiting goals and cadet onboarding.
  • Prepare and deliver briefings and participate in Corps activities, including physical fitness leadership and weekend operations as required.
