The Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) is seeking nominations for and/or applications for the position of Deputy Chief Librarian. This role provides strategic and functional oversight of library public services across Brooklyn, including the Central Library and six Service Regions (61 branches total). Reporting to the Chief Librarian, the Deputy Chief Librarian is part of the Public Service Leadership Team and involved in high-level decision-making for the library system, ensuring consistent and high-quality services. The position is responsible for translating strategic priorities into actionable plans, building organizational alignment, and ensuring successful implementation across all public service points. The Deputy Chief Librarian fosters a culture of innovation, inclusion, accountability, and operational excellence, driving alignment across BPL’s public service network. This role requires proficiency in library operations and public-facing services, and the ability to build positive relationships with business and administrative departments. The Deputy Chief Librarian will play an integral role in creating and executing the broad vision for public service excellence across BPL. Direct reports include the Central Library Director, six Regional Directors, and an Administrative Assistant. This is a full-time, non-union, exempt position.
