About The Position

This position serves as deputy to the Chief Court Administrator and provides assistance in planning, organizing, directing, administering and coordinating the operations and support services for the First Circuit Court on Oahu. The position is responsible for the overall management of the division's branches comprised of three areas: 1) Fiscal Management Branch; 2) Project Management Branch; and 3) Facilities Management Section which includes serving as the building and emergency/security manager for the First Circuit. Additionally, the position coordinates and manages all fiscal, maintenance and construction projects operations for the First Circuit, and may assume the duties and responsibilities of the Chief Court Administrator in his/her absence.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience.
  • Ability to write clear and comprehensive reports and other documents.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex written material.
  • Ability to solve complex problems logically and systematically.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible professional, administrative, technical work experience in one or a combination of the following areas (Clerical work experience is non-qualifying):
  • In a court or legal setting, responsibility for supervising or overseeing the operational activities of a unit or section whose primary function is the preparation and/or processing of legal documents. Such experience must have included planning and directing the work of others, assigning and reviewing their work, advising them on difficult problem areas, timing and scheduling their work, training and developing new employees, and disciplining them when necessary.
  • Independently performing professional work involving written analysis, evaluation and recommendations for problem resolution in a court or legal setting, or those social work or administrative programs of the courts.
  • One (1) year of Staff Specialist or Supervisory Experience.
  • Staff Specialist Experience: Work in a criminal justice system which included the development and/or modification of an institutional program, and/or work in a criminal justice system which included program development and evaluation and the development of new and revised procedures.
  • Supervisory Experience: Experience which included planning and directing the work of others, assigning and reviewing their work, advising them on difficult problem areas, timing and scheduling their work, training and developing of new employees, and disciplining them when necessary.
  • One (1) year of progressively responsible work experience in a court or legal setting, social work or administrative program of the courts which involved active participation in and major responsibility for the development of policies and procedures; and the development, management, execution and coordination of program operations and activities.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master’s degree in business, public administration or criminal justice administration or a closely related field may be substituted for one (1) year of Specialized Experience.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of law may be substituted for one (1) year of Specialized Experience.
