The Law Clerk is assigned to the chambers of Justice Sabrina S. McKenna of the Hawaii Supreme Court and provides legal research, analysis, and case-preparation support to an Associate Justice of the Hawaii Supreme Court. The incumbent conducts research on routine and complex legal issues, analyzes statutes, case law, briefs, and other legal authorities, identifies relevant precedents, and prepares concise legal memoranda summarizing research findings. The position also reviews briefs and draft opinions for the accuracy and applicability of legal citations and quotations, studies case records and transcripts in preparation for hearings, and attends oral arguments to support the Justice’s consideration and resolution of cases. Overall, the position requires strong legal research, analytical, writing, and critical-thinking skills to assist the Court in addressing legal issues and ensuring the accuracy and soundness of its decisions.
